We’re hard at work perfecting the Pique Pizza Oven Insert - because great pizza deserves nothing less. While it may have seemed like a simple addition to our outdoor fireplace, developing a pizza oven insert that delivers true wood-fired quality has proven to be anything but.
We say that with a bit of authority - because we love making pizza. We've been firing up woodfired pizza ovens for years, experimenting with doughs, sauces, and every topping imaginable. Pizza nights have been a regular tradition around here, and we’re serious about getting the experience just right. That’s why we won’t release the Pique Pizza Oven Insert until it delivers the kind of performance we’d expect from a top-tier wood-fired pizza oven.
Through extensive testing, we quickly learned that most pizza hoods struggle with an open coal fire directly beneath the pizza stone. The intense, upward heat creates a real challenge: getting a well-cooked, nicely browned top without scorching the base. It’s a delicate balance.
The good news: we’ve made real progress. We've figured out how to get good heat and flame action over the top of the pizza - just like a traditional wood-fired oven. The not so good news... We’re not quite there yet. Right now, we can get either the top or the bottom perfect, but not both at the same time.
We’re close. Just a few more refinements and we’ll have a pizza insert that can truly create good woodfired pizza.
