Product Expectations
Ascent Inner Firebox Panels
Internal panels of the Ascent fireplace are manufactured from weathering steel (CorTen), these are coated in a high-temperature zinc coating renowned for its sacrificial corrosion protection properties, the steel is then finished with a high-temperature black paint. Although this is a robust coating system, it should be expected that paint on the internal firebox panels is damaged and wears as part of normal use and maintenance. As paint on the firebox is damaged, the weathering-steel base material will continue to protect your firebox by forming a stable rust layer on the surface of the material, this 'patina' serves as a protective, corrosion-resistant barrier for the underlying material.
Ascent Outer Body
The outer body of the Ascent is manufactured from aluminised steel (mild steel that has been hot-dipped in aluminium) then finished with a high-temperature black paint. The aluminised steel coating was specially selected for its weather resistant properties. If this coating is damaged, it can no longer protect the material underneath and the affected area will likely begin to rust. It is therefore recommended that any damaged paint on the outer shell be repaired with the application of our high-temperature touch up paint.
